This is one of my personal kind of posts. On September 24th I went to a whole-day-visual-key event at Ikebukuro Black Hole (Tokyo) called “Dark in the DarkVol.45～ジャック in the ハンター2016”.
There was 14 bands performing and I will give you my review about almost each and one of them, but in separate posts (takes time to write them all). But you can see all current ones at this link!
6th band on stage was: BUK BUK
This is a pretty new band that had their debut in February this year, and I have been curious about them since then. This evening I confirmed they are interesting for real!
Awa, the vocalist wore a white shirt (like the one on the picture below but without that ruffled collar. He wore a black tie instead.)
I got so spellbound by him. Such amazing energy. He acted like he was absolutely insane.
They reminded me a lot of Dezert, both what concerns look as well as sounds. Their music was heavy and hard but maybe not as “screamy” or “trashy” as Dezert, but Awa’s and Chiaki’s voices were incredibly similar some times.
Awa’s hair was so darn thick I constantly tried to figure out if it was fake or not. I think it was real though. (It didn’t look like on the picture below. See the cheki instead.)
So much headbanging… I knew my neck would be stiff as a stick the next day. At some point I thought we were screaming more “oi” than actually listening to real songs. But I loved it.
Awa danced like a maniac with strange, crazy movements. He reminded me of Izumi of SIbilebashir those times. It was like he lacked all kind of boundaries. I wonder how old he is, ’cause he looked pretty young. He had confidence though.
I tried to no only stare at Awa all the time, but also notice all the other members. I couldn’t see much of ree though, due to his long bang and face-mask. Maybe I saw an eye time to time… 😛
Suddenly Awa jumped down to the audience, passed by all people running and I believe we all were thinking: “Oh my god, what horrible things is he gonna do to us?!”
When he passed me, I took a better look at his fluffy, silky hair. And.. yes, it MUST be real! But brilliantly fluffed! ^^
He didn’t care about us though… To our surprise he simply ran to the back door that leads to the bar, opened it and disappeared. I was like… “Do he need to use the bathroom or what? Let’s hope he turn of his mike…” 😛
He didn’t abandon us entirely after all. Soon he turned up behind me at the door next to the merchandise tables.
He started to push people closer to the stage, and they all looked embarrassed or shy, just like Japanese girls can do at times like this. ^_- ❤
Awa jumped up on stage and poured so much water over jun’s head that he the rest of the concert resembled a wet cat.
MISO threw off his top to everybody’s delight. The – now more than ever – crazy and unruly Awa ran to ree, drenched him in water as well, spitted on him and hit his head with a water bottle. (Hey, be nice to your boys!!!)
Then there was the fans’ turn. One after one got drenched in water from Awa’s waterbottles. Everybody laughed and had fun.
Somehow the gig continued with some kind of focus. Ree stepped forward to play a solo when Awa started to poke the strings of his bass. I’m not sure if he totally messed up the music or if they actually made a brilliant cooperation. The fans seemed to like it anyway.
Even BUK BUK wanted us to do the wall of death, and it went a bit better this time (in comparison to Faze).
I really liked this band and I will follow their progression with even more excitement. I couldn’t find any CDs at the merchandise table, so I bought some cheki instead.
There was only three left when it was my turn to draw (and they were taken the same day according to the seller). I’m glad that Awa was on one of them.
More BUK BUK!
Note: This was actually not the last thing we saw of Awa this night since he made a mischievous guest performance during jack caper’s gig. See more here!
Debut: February 8th 2016 (demo live)
