This is a very popular movie that is based on a book with the same name. There is also a drama based on Koizora. The story was originally publicized as a novel on a cell phone website, written by Mika, and is sometimes claimed to be a biography.
I’m probably the last one to watch this movie and I had no idea of the plot beforehand. I had just seen the cover of the DVD and thought: “This looks like a sweet love-story!” and then I ended up crying my eyes out. If I just had looked up the full title of the book: “Koizora: Setsunai Koi Monogatari”… wich means… “Sky of Love: A Sad Love Story”.
In other words… don’t watch this movie if you already are sad.
Drama: Koizora (Sky of love)
Release date: November 3rd 2007
Mika Tahara has just started high school and wants to fall in love.
One day she looses her cell phone and when she finally get it back, someone has erased all her contacts. A young man starts to call her but refuses to reveal his name. At first, Mika gets bothered, but after a while she gets curious and want to get to know the secret person behind the calls. They talk everyday, day and night, and get to know each other – except the boy’s identity.
On her birthday, mystery boy decides to reveal himself for her, which leads into a fairy-tale romance. For a while anyway. Very soon something awful happens which turns everything around.
My opinion: During the first minutes into the movie I thought it seemed like another silly teenage-movie, but after a while I got more and more drawn into it. And in the end, I was totally sold and destroyed. So beautiful and so sad. I can’t remember last time I cried that much for a movie.
The mystery boy – Hiro – is played by Haruma Miura.
