A GACKT-maniac friend of mine recommended me to watch the “Time Spiral” series, so I did… As you might already have guessed, GACKT has one of the main roles in it and I think that’s the main reason to watch it.
Japanese drama: Time Spiral (タイムスパイラル)
Release date: September 2nd – October 21st 2014
Episodes: 8
Director: Ryo Nishimura, Nozomi Amemiya
If you want to watch it without any expectations, please don’t read further. ^_- Otherwise, here is a short description of the plot…
Natsuki Aizawa was kidnapped as a child and mysteriously rescued by a male stranger. Still she suffers from panic attacks after this incident which haunts her to a mature age.
To her rescue is her childhood friend Kentaro Yuki who’s always been taking care of her when she’s been ill. He grows romantic feelings for her and one day he buys an engagement ring in purpose to propose.
However, Natsuki meets a new professor (GACKT) at the university she’s studying at. He insinuates that they already know each other and that she one day will love him again. His pretty forceful seduction scares her off, but she’s curious about this man.
At this time, she also start to get double memories of past happenings which confuses her. In one, Kentaro proposes to her and in another he doesn’t. In one she get rescued from the kidnapping and in another she gets killed.
What she doesn’t know is that professor Shuya Tatsumi has the ability to travel in time and interfere with what’s happening in her life. But what is his purpose? And who is he. Or should we say…. WHAT is he…?
My opinion: This drama makes me think of soap operas. The acting is rather bad and the main characters are more pretty than believable. Natsuki Aizawa is portraited by Meisa Kuroki who is very beautiful, but according to me extremely boring and only own one face. GACKT is GACKT, and somehow always cool, but I wouldn’t say that I find him attractive in this drama. But kudos to him for showing his real aging face without too much makeup. I also wish he could have had another hairstyle, preferably black, but… that’s just me. ^_-
If you are a GACKT-fan, then of course you should watch “Time Spiral”. And even if you’re not, but just like Japanese drama, it’s pretty entertaining anyway. For a sci-fi enthusiast, the story lacks logic concerning timelines and parallel worlds, but if you can look behind that, it’s fun to watch!
The drama can be hard to find in stores for western fans, so HERE is a download link.
