Have you seen the famous dog statue in Shibuya?
Yes, the one called Hachiko.
This dog has become famous because of his loyalty.
For nine years, Hachiko went to the Shibuya Station and waited for his master to come home, not knowing that his master had died while he was away.
Nine years and never gave up!
It’s such a sad story. And still today, Hachiko stands in Shibuya, loyalty waiting. But as a statue of course. It’s been 80 years since Hachiko passed away. And his master – Ueno – passed away in 1925. That’s 90 years ago.
Due to this anniversary, the University of Tokyo’s agriculture department has erected a bronze statue of Ueno and Hachiko on its campus.
So now they finally got reunited. Isn’t that sweet?
