The 18 meter tall warrior robot

Sometimes people have asked me where to go if they want to see the giant Gundam statue in Japan and I haven’t known the answer. But now I have looked it up. ^^

It seems to nowadays be located – permanently I think – in Odaiba, in front of the Diver City. It used to be located in Shizuoka.

For those who doesn’t know, the statue is based on a very popular anime called Mobile Suit Gundam from 1979 in which giant “robots” or “mechas” called “mobile suits” are used as super weapons in war.

The statue was erected as part of the 30th anniversary of the Gundam series and was completed June 9th 2009. It’s supposed to be “life-sized”, in other words, as big as it would be in reality.

Yes, it’s 18 meter tall!

It can move it’s head and is equipped with lights which I makes it really cool to watch during night time.

If you’re interested in visiting it, then I recommend you to take a look at this link: DiverCity Tokyo Plaza

  1. I stopped by there three months ago and it’s really impressive. Especially when you notice all the small details all over it. They really put a lot of work into this one, but what else to expect when it is made in Japan… 🙂
