As a swede that lives in Stockholm, I find this a bit funny and interesting. 🙂
Did you know that while working with “Kiki’s delivery service“, Hayao Miyazaki (born 1941, associated with Studio Ghibli) was inspired by houses in Vasastan (an area in Stockholm, Sweden).
Miyazaki did also want to make an anime to the Swedish children’s book character “Pippi Longstocking” (swe: Pippi Långstrump). The name would have been: “Pippi Longstocking, The Strongest Girl In The World (長靴下のピッピ 世界一強い女の子)”. Unfortunately, it was never done ’cause he didn’t get allowance to by the original creator.
Here you can see some of Miyazaki’s story-board illustrations to Pippi Longstockings!
That he never got permission is a shame I would say. The animated Pippi-movies that have been made today is hideous. I would have loved to see Miyazaki’s Pippi.
Thanks Daniel Ribera for showing me the pictures.
