I got my biggest tattoo ever today and it took approximately four hours to make it.
I have never felt any discomfort while being tattooed before but the last hour today was really, really painful. It felt like he was digging around with a big needle on a burn wound. Aotch! I usually consider myself as tough and enduring but today I actually suffered. The tattoo is not entirely finished yet since there will be a background as well – but I just couldn’t take any more today. Better to rest some and figure out how I want the background.
The tattoo ended up on my left lower arm. I’ve wanted to tattoo something there for years now and I’m very happy that I finally got a chance to get it – and by a very talented tattooer as well.
The motif is from my favorite anime “Elfen Lied”.
During the intro of each episodes, beautiful images inspired by the artist Gustav Klimt are fading in and out. You can see some examples of them here. I’m sure you recognize Gustav Klimt’s paintings. (You probably get it, but the Elfen Lied versions are those painted in anime style ^_-)
I think it’s very beautiful. The story, music and artwork of Elfen Lied have really touched me deeply and I keep seeing new things every time I watch it. It’s an absolutely beautiful story. Sad, awful, but perfect. I can’t imagine ever regretting having that motif tattooed.
I was very excited ’cause I hadn’t had a tattoo since I was in Canada ~4 years ago. It’s a special feeling that I somehow had forgot what it felt like. The first hours were ok, but I guess all nerves starts complain as the wound gets bigger.
It’s swollen here and there. On the inside of the arm the swollen area continues three-four centimeters outside the tattoo. It’s still quite messy and it will be interesting to watch it heal. I just pray that my cat wont dig her claws in that arm right now. It would make me… annoyed.
I got very pleased with the result. Marcus is quite a talent! As I mentioned before, the background is still missing, but will be added hopefully before april.
Anyway, a really great day. I’m so happy for my new tattoo!
