I’ve had intentions to see this movie for a long time, but by some reason I haven’t until now. It’s from 2005.
Shinobi is a japanese movie that tells the story about two ninja clans, the Manjidani Koga and Tsubagakure Iga. They are now living in peace but have a history of 400 years of war. One day, the lord of the lords claims that these clans are too dangerous for the land and decides that their best warriors must fight each other in a contest.
This is a little bit like a Romeo and Juliette tale, since Iga Oboro – a woman in one of the clans – and Koga Gennesuke – a man from the other clan fall in love with each other. They don’t only have to hide their love but also must fight each other in this contest. It’s a duel to death.
These shinobi ninjas are a little bit special and all have different magical abilities. Oboro for instance has the “eyes of destruction”. One woman warriow breathes poision and another man is unable to die.
I believe the narrative was quite lame and boring. I didn’t cared much for the main characters either. The only good thing about this movie was Tak Sakaguchi who became the eye candy of this movie. ^^
I think I got myself a new favourite japanese actor. ^^
Obviously I’ve seen Tak Sakaguchi before in movies like Azumi, but I didn’t recognize him back then. Maybe because he looked like a lunatic in that movie…
