Watch Rurouni Kenshin!!! <3

Now I’ve watched the entire Rurouni Kenshin anime (95 episodes) and I want to say some words about it since I truly enjoyed watching it.

Rurouni Kenshin

Rurouni Kenshin

The anime is based on a manga called Rurouni Kenshin, or Samurai X. The story takes place early of the Meji era in Japan (1868-1912) and the main character – Kenshin Himura – is a wanderer and swordsman. He used to be Hitokiri Battousai, an infamous man-slayer and assassin with crazy skills in sword-fighting. He masters a style called Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu.

Ten years ago he decided to never kill again, and hence got himself a sakabato (reversed blade sword). With that sword he can still fight to protect people – but can’t kill.

A rough translation of “Rurouni Kenshin” is “Kenshin, the wandering swordsman”. After ten years of vagabond life, Kenshin encounters a bunch of new people in Tokyo that comes to be like a family to him. There’s Kaoru who offers him to live in her dojo. There’s Sanosuke who used to be a Sekihô member in the army. After that he became a fighter-for-hire and was called Zanza after his sword “Zanbatô” that was extremely big.

There’s also Yahiko, a young boy who starts to train sword-fighting in Kaoru’s dojo and Megumi who is a doctor.

Even though many people seems to find Sanosuke as the favorite character, I fell in love with Kenshin. Why? Well, ’cause he was such a crazy good swordsman which was pretty cool and because he was so kind-hearted. ^^ Sometimes too kind. Several times I wanted him to throw away his silly ideas of non-killing, but I believe the anime had a valuable story to tell. The “bad guys” often turned out to not be entirely bad, and if they still appeared to be real asses, there was often an understandable reason behind it. Enemies turned into allies and vice versa.

There’s a lot of humor in the anime, which sometimes annoyed me, but at the same time enjoyed. There were times when Kenshin appeared TOO silly which didn’t really match his super cool samurai persona. But after watching the OVA “Trust and betrayal” (which was very sad and that I will tell you about later), I’m glad that I got some comic relief.

I won’t say too much… cause I want you to see it yourself. WATCH THIS ANIME IF YOU HAVEN’T! I know it feel a bit deterring when there’s so many episodes, but it’s worth it.

And of course I enjoyed a lot of the end themes by artists like L’arc~en~ciel and T.M. Revolution! ^^
